A bizarre thing happened on the way home from the doctor...

We had just gotten Coty a physical for pre-missionary preparation and to see what was going on with his hamstrings. So on the way home, about a block from our house the car in front of us came to a screeching halt, literally, there was rubber laid and everything. We slowed down and pulled up a little distance behind the car to see what was going on. The guy driving was on the pretty big side and in the passenger seat was a woman. I could tell the guy was probably in his late 30's early 40's and the female was definitely out of her teens but that was all I could make out of her. All of a sudden this guy leans over and starts punching the girl/woman with his fists. She is cowering against the door while he is beating on her. I was stunned to say the least. I immediately honked my horn to draw his attention away from the woman. He then pulled over on the side of the road and waved me on. Oh so he could safely beat his girlfriend/wife? We went around while I was simutaniously calling 911. My driveway was down the road, which I turned into the beginning of it, so I could watch the car while talking to the operator. Hindsight I should have gone a little further instead of pulling into my own driveway, but I was in a little bit of shock. We described the car, the occupants and where they were located. Then the car pulled out and we got the license plate as they went past. I don't know if they were ever pulled over, and even if they were, unless something illegal was going on I am sure the woman didn't report him. I am now driving my truck for a few days just in case and we have parked our car in the garage so you can't see it from the road.

This has sat with me the last few days. I go from deep feelings of empathy for the woman to gratitude that I am married to the man I am. I know it will be something I think about for the rest of my life. The look in his face and her just taking it, not getting out of the car, not fighting back. Just cowering against the door frame.

that is horrible...keep a lookout in the police blotter of the courier next week I am sure it will be in there if the man was arrested.

That would scare the heck out of me. What an awful thing to witness. I hope the girl is okay. Good idea to call the police. Hopefully they were able to help.

Hello. You might find this a little odd, but oh well. I am Julie Butler, married to Barry Butler, son of Lou Butler, brother to Dale Butler...whew! So that would make you and Barry cousins...correct? Anywho, my daughter Makenna and I have just recently stumbled upon some blog addresses off of Nicole's blog page...which is why we are viewing your page. Just wanted to say hi. Where is your son going on his mission? When does he leave? We have a son serving in Mexico right now. He's almost been out a year. Well, anyway, it's fun to see all the pictures of your kids. Our blog page is barryjulie.blogspot.com
See ya!

I've never heard that story about Barry before. Please tell me he was little when that happened...and not like 17 or something! It's funny that you've heard that a million times, and yet I've never heard it. Ya learn something new every day. So which one of you was called "pooh bear"? Your son left in May, wow. What a blessing it is to have a missionary out. I live for Colten's e-mails. It's so fun to see and hear about all of the experiences he's had. Some good, some tough. He's loving it though, and I can tell that his testimony has grown and matured. I'm sure that you are finding the same thing.
